Three La Trobe University graduates have been appointed as judges in Thailand’s Courts of First Instance.

Prakaiporn Ratananaka, Indira Sirivorakul, and Chamainuch Kongprom (known as L, Indy and Joy respectively) are graduates of the La Trobe Law master’s degree programme.

To receive an appointment as a judge, applicants must pass the judge’s examination and attend a year-long training programme. "That’s the real time we are waiting for," said Indy.

Once the full assessment is completed, the recipients are designated by King Bhumibol of Thailand.

Within Thailand, all cases commence in the Courts of First Instance. These trial courts consist of general courts, juvenile and family courts, and specialized courts.

The newly-appointed judges received their gowns in a ceremony led by the President of the Supreme Court.
